Office 2007 – 3 things

Three miscellaneous tips for Microsoft Office 2007.

Microsoft Office 2007 - Office button imageDouble clicking the Office Button will close an application such as Word, PowerPoint or Excel.

-------

Office 2007 applications have new default file formats. For example, Word's new file format uses the docx extension instead of doc. If you share your documents with people who have older versions of Office applications they will be upset by not being able to open the documents.

You can permanently change the way the application saves files to make them compatible with older Office versions by doing this:

  1. Click the Office Button.
  2. Click the "Application" Options button on the lower right of the Office Button window.
  3. Select Save from the list on the left side of the "Application" Options window.
  4. Select the file format you want from the Save files in this format: dropdown list
  5. Click the OK button to save your change.

-------

I highly recommend RibbonCustomizer if you find the Office Ribbon confusing and want to restore the older toolbar and menus interface. There is a free version and a Professional version for $29.99.
