Microsoft Outlook – Remove Autocompletion Entries
Outlook uses autocompletion when you add email addresses to the To..., Cc..., and Bcc... fields of messages. It tries to anticipate what you want and fill it for you thereby saving you the trouble of typing it out.
Sometimes autocompletion contains obsolete or wrong information. There are two ways to remove addresses from the autocompletion, individual entries or the entire list.
- Individual Entries - Highlight the bad entry when it is presented in the suggested address list. You can use the keyboard's arrow keys to select an item. Once the item is selected in the list push the Delete key. The bad address should be removed.
- The Entire List - You need to rename the file that stores the information. This is safer than deleting it.
- Close Outlook.
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Select from the menu Tools - Folder Options...
- Select the View tab.
- Select the Show hidden files and folders radio button under the Hidden files and folders setting.
- Click OK.
- Close Windows Explorer.
- Click Start and then click Search.
- The Search Results window opens.
- In the left side panel, click All files and folders.
- Type *.NK2 in the All or part of the file name: field.
- Select Local Hard Drives from the Look in: field.
- Click the Search button.
- When the search is completed, select your profile's .NK2 file
- Right click on the file and select Rename from the context menu.
- Add .bak to the end of the file name and press Enter.
- Close the Search Results window.
- Restart Outlook.
