AT&T Wireless latest statement includes the following language:
An eligible data plan is required for Smartphones (including iPhone, BlackBerry & PDA devices) per AT&T’s Wireless Rate Plan Terms & Wireless Data Service Terms & Conditions at www.att.com/planterms. If you begin using a Smartphone after 9/05/09 without an eligible data plan, AT&T reserves the right to add an eligible data plan to your account & bill you the proper monthly fee. See www.att.com/smartphoneplans for more info.
I think this is corporate greed run amok. It is time for Washington to enforce the same equipment rules on cell carriers that apply to landline providers.

donnia has a blackberry phone in which i have paid total 72.02 every mo. in spite of my going to the att local retail store and canceling my internet on this blackbery phone the representative said nothing nor did they offer one of these plans, by the way they charge the same for my husband monthly charge, who does not have a smart phone,he has a att samsung his charges are 69.78. So what! our phone bill has seldom been under 200.00. my husband has not ben employed for almost a year now. someone at att hear me. we have gone to the retail store on several occasions to get our bill modified. WHY DOES BOB PAY AS MUCH (WITH HIM HAVING ONLY A SAM SUNG) AS I PAY? HE DOES NOT HAVE THE INTERNET ON HIS PHONE . YOURE ATT ELIGIBLE DATA PLANS SHOULD ONLY APPLY TO THOSE PHONES MENTIONED. DONNIA STARTED USING HER BLACKBERRY WAY BEFORE THIS WIRELESS DATA PHONE PLAN WAS AVAILABLE. THE DATE ON MY SATATEMENT IS 9/05/09.
