First Impression Snow Leopard Mac OS X 10.6
My first impression is that I am underwhelmed.
I see no real difference in speed. The user interface (UI) is identical to Leopard. Many applications need to be updated to work correctly with Snow Leopard.
I installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 15" machine. It took a little over [...]
iGoogle’s social gadgets
My inbox had 323 messages from my sister with the subject “NEED HELP”. My poor BlackBerry was buzzing itself to death.
My sister uses Outlook Express on a Windows XP Home notebook. She has a business consulting with high school students and their families preparing them for SATs and helping with the [...]
Windows 7 running on an old HP notebook
I wanted to test Windows 7 on an old HP Pavilion DV4305US that I own. It is not the original configuration as the hard drive and RAM have been upgraded. The machine’s specs are:
Intel Celeron 1.40GHz CPU 1GB RAM 250GB hard drive GPU – Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset [...]
Thunderbird 3.0 Attachments Reminder
Thunderbird is the Rodney Dangerfield of email clients. It shouldn’t be.
I use it as my main business email application for many reasons, not the least of which is that it handles HTML code much better than any of the major alternatives, such as Microsoft Outlook [...]
Facebook versus Google, the fight for the social web
The Internet constantly changes.
Web 1.0 was static pages. Web 2.0 was about the browser as a platform. Google search and Gmail typify Web 2.0. The social web, Web 3.0, combines many forms of expression and communication, mashed up in a few Internet sites. The social [...]
Microsoft needs to fix their installer application
Updating to Windows Live Movie Maker (version 14.0.8091.0730) from a beta on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit machine was typical of many Microsoft software installs, fail upon fail upon fail. This should have been a simple process. It wasn’t.
I saw the dialog window pictured to the left [...]
Microsoft Security Essentials popped up with the following message on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit computer a few moments ago:
After clicking the Apply actions button, MSE reported this:
The Vasilios Freeware site says:
Antiviruses’ fake alerts report…
• In some occasions alerts of Antiviruses may [...]
Google Calendar Labs
If you use Google Calendar, take a look at Labs. The World clock, Jump to date, Next Meeting, and Free or Busy gadgets are quite useful.
You can access the Labs features by clicking on the links menu (upper right on the Calendar screen): on the beaker icon, the Settings link, [...]
SmarterFox 2.1.2 screws up Google Reader
SmarterFox is a Firefox add-on that has some remarkable features. It adds useful functionality to Firefox. I liked SmarterFox until today. The current version has changed the way that Google Reader displays, adding its “endless page” feature to the Reader and in so doing, obscures [...]
