LG BD370 Blu-ray player connects to the Internet, finally!
A client purchased an LG BD370 Blu-ray player to connect to the bedroom HDTV. The player features both BD Live and LG’s NetCast Entertainment Access (NBE). NBE allows the viewer to connect to the Internet and watch streaming video from Netflix, CinemaNow, YouTube and others. It can also access websites such as Yahoo’s Flickr to view photos.
The installation was normal until it came to connecting to the Internet. The house’s network is typical. We employ a D-Link router, with wireless 802.11n and wired Gigabit Ethernet and a couple of D-Link wired 24 port, Gigabit switches. The BD370 is connected to the LAN via a CAT6 cable.
Getting the unit to talk to the Internet proved to be a difficult time-consuming task. The network setup screen is limited. One can choose DHCP IP (dynamic IP addressing) or Static IP addresses. If you choose the latter you must supply an IP address, a subnet mask and a DNS (Domain Name Server) address. The first of many attempts was made using DHCP where the router supplies the address. The machine’s icon reported that it connected to the Internet but whenever we tried to access the web we would get a message about network congestion.
The unit does NOT show its IP address, subnet mask and DNS address, so it is hard to see what is wrong.
We then tried a static address and subnet mask using the network’s gateway address as the DNS address. This is a typical setup for devices connected to a LAN. We got the same message about network congestion. Next we tried connecting directly to the cable modem to make certain that the device could talk to the web. This worked.
Now it became an issue of solving what was blocking the device when attached to the router. The router did not report the device as one of its attached items. But we could ping it from a computer so it was definitely on the network. After many pings, other tests and reboots of routers, cable modems and the Blu-ray player the device showed up on the router’s device list. But we still could not communicate with the web.
I then changed two things. I set up port forwarding for the device for port 32768 and set the static DNS address to 208.67.222.222 an OpenDNS DNS server. Problem solved!
This only took two days to solve, about 10 man hours in total. In the final analysis, it would have been cheaper to hook up a media center computer rather than the LG BD370.

Thank you SO much Richard, the helpfulness of the internet community never ceases to amaze me. I would have been beating my head against the wall soon without your help!
@ Tim
You are quite welcome. I too am often amazed by the community and generosity of people on the Internet, people we never meet face-to-face, but who put a positive face on humanity. I am glad I am able to pay-it-forward on this matter, and feel it is a small payback for all those that have helped and will help me solve problems.
Thank you Richard. Your hard work got me up in running in 5 minutes. I set the port forwarding to 32768 on my router and set the static DNS address on the BD 390 to 208.67.222.222 and everything works great. Thanks!
This did the trick. I couldn’t connect my LG 42LH50 to Netflix. After opening port 32768 and changing the static DNS address to 208.67.222.222 everything works great.
Curious, I never expected to become the central clearing house for LG Blu-ray player Internet connection technical support. But it looks like I am.
Thanks for the site. I finally made sure that the DNS that the router thought it was using matched the DNS that the BD390 thought it was using. Ciao bella! I saw all the photos for the movies immediately. Not only that, but the quality is HD like it should be.
Hi
I just bough the LG BD370 and was disappointed to find that I would need an ethernet adaptor. I thought I had researched it pretty thoroughly so I felt let down. When I looked through Amazon for an adaptor (wireless) I just got confused. I just don’t understand even some of the simplest terms abd LG support was of no help. They said that any wirelss ethernet adaptor would do but some consumer reviews clearly stated otherwise. Can anyone recommend a wireless ethernet router to me? Thanks everyone.
Hi guys, I have just bought the LG 370. I have D-link DSL 2640T and a Trendnet TEW ethernet bridge. I have followed the instructions on how to install the ‘bridge’ but I’m having the same problems as the gentleman above. LG reads internet connected but does not work; reads “Internet Congestion”
Can anyone help me please, on how to get the “Youtube” working on my player???
hi guys! i have just bought BD LG370. i would like to ask if theres any possibility to cennect my BD LG370 thru internet wirelessly. please help me with my problem, thanks guys and more power

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals
Dear All,
I bought a BD370 and tried to connec to internet. My internet connection is required to type the user id and pass in my PC. How can I setup the connection for the internet? I have dynamic IP address as I know and not static IP address as per my best knowledge.
Can you please help me?
Thanks and regards,
Baba
Similar problem occured on the LG BD570.
First set port forward on listed ports, and set DNS adres on OPENDNS.
Update en youtube worked instantly.
Then switched off port forwarding.
You tube still worked.
Conclusion for problem seems to be in the DNS setting.
Thanks a lot for sharing your findings with us.
Also reduced the time for getting things work properly
to an hour
and now back to the player……
Thanks a million. I was going crazy trying to setup my LG 370 Blue Ray player and getting it to go on youtube and netflix. The fix with the DNS and port forwarding did. Thanks for sharing.

LG BD370 does not support wireless. It only comes with an ethernet port and therefore can support only wired connection. However, you can do what i have done. I have a WRT160N wireless N router in my basement but i wanted to use the LG in the loft area. So I purchased another cheapo wireless N router Rosewill EasyN400 – which supports repeater mode. I got it really cheap (for 19.99 from newegg.com).
I configured the Rosewill as a repeater to my WRT160N and connected the LG to one of the LAN ports on the Rosewill. So now the LG is connected to the Rosewill via a cable and the Rosewill s connected wirelessly to my main router. Problem solved.
Please note however, that using a repeater reduces the throughput by half. The WRT160N is 300 Mbps capable but the Rosewill is only 150 MBps capable. Which means my LG is getting an effective speed of only about 75 Mbps. So if you have a wireless G network at home with a max speed of 54 Mbps, there’d be no point in using a repeater because it would cut down your effective speed to around 25 Mbps.
Try to find a 300 Mbps N router capable of being used as a repeater or even a router that can act as a wireless bridge though they tend to be at least 4 times more expensive than what i paid for the Rosewill.
HTH.
Thank you Richard. I resolved the network issue I had with my BD570C. I used only the OpenDNS server part and was able to get on the net. I did not need to change port forwarding on my unit. Thanks for sharing your results with us.
Hello,
I wanted to provide some information about my lg bd570.
I was also having problems connecting to the net. I could see my routers ssid and connect to the router but could not connect to the net. I disabled the routers security and it worked fine. I then tried to change it from WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] to WPA2-PSK [AES] and it worked fine. I didn’t have to change any of the port fowarding or the ip or dns info.
Hope that helps!
Bob
Hi everybody and thanks Richard for the helpful trick!
Do anybody knows if there’s any way to use the LG BD370 to stream contenents also from a PC instead from only web sites?
Richard –
I’m having a similar problem with a BX 580. Even when I wire it directly to the router (WRT160N), it sees the network, but no internet connection. I have tried to piece together options that would work from your posts, but can’t seem to get it to work. Could you help with what I should input for IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, Primary DNS, and Secondary DNS to get my BX 580 to connect to the internet?
Thanks.
I believe the WRT160N is a Linksys router, so the default gateway settings are 192.168.1.1.
I don’t know how your router is configured for DHCP server settings. The available range is 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.255. Usually this is restricted to a subset.
Check the router’s settings to find the range it is assigning. You can find this in the router’s admin console. Use your browser and enter “192.168.1.1″ into the address bar and press Return/Enter on your keyboard. Sign in with whatever username and password it requires.
You can then find a status report from one of the items. Check the router’s current IP address assignments so you don’t use that is in use. Choose an IP address that is not assigned and within the range the router is using. Then input the static IP address you want to use, it would be something like 192.168.1.125, with subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
DNS servers should be physically near to you. Typically your router gets its DNS settings from your ISP. You can check your router admin console to see what it is using and then assign those DNS numbers to the BX580. If you are in the United States you might use the OpenDNS servers 208.67.222.222 and 208.37.220.220. You can also use Steve Gibson’s DNS Benchmark Utility to find fast one’s for your location (http://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm).
Hope this helps.
Ok…I’m trying to follow all the suggestions here and I’m still can’t get my BD 570 to run. It detects the signal. I’m not necessarily sure where I’m supposed to enter the point forwarding to 32768. I have a Lynksis Wireless N Home Router…There’s a single point forwarding area but there’s two places that are blank: External Port & Internal Port. Then, it says to IP Address … where I can only change the last 3 digits. Here there is a check box option where you can enable it. Where does the 32678 # go into. Also, there’s an area where you can put a DHCP Server Setting and has a blank Static DNS 1 area. Is that where the 208.67.222.222 # goes in? So much for thinking I knew what the heck I was doing…Thanks.
Fantastic! Thanks for this.
I agree with Hans, above: It seems to be a DNS issue. I only changed the Primary DNS (in the LG BD570 Player settings) to 208.67.22.22 and Youtube now works smoothly. My wireless-N router is a D-Link DIR-655.
I know it’s an old thread, but felt I should post that it’s still a current issue.
I have an LG Blu-ray player, model BD370. It is not connecting to the internet, so I can’t access Netflix or YouTube. I tried changing the port and DNS like the original advice, but still no luck. I have also tried port forwarding from 32767 to 32769 (as advised by another forum) and changing the IP to ending in .99. I have Linksys and Comcast, if that helps.
I know it’s a problem with the Comcast router because when I connect my laptop to it, it doesn’t access the internet.
I’d appreciate any help, thanks.
Please Help, I’m trying to connect my DB370 Player to Youtube, however, I constantly get a message popping up about network congestion. I’m with Virgin cable and therefore have a Dynamic IP address. This fault is dring me crazy, please help me!!!
THis worked for me on on a BD 570. Thanks so much. I still don’t understand it though. Because it was working for the longest time and just stopped connecting, even though the graphic showed the device as connected to the internet and it would aslo look for software upgrades; but not connect to anything else ie netflix, youtube.
THanks again
AH HA! I discovered that my LG BD570 bluray interface doesn’t allow me to enter uppercase letters for the Network Key.
Once I changed the key on my router to use lowercase letters, I was finally able to connect to the LAN and Internet….after probably 8 hours of frustration the past two days.
